Joint Research Project with Tokyo Gakugei University
Developing Textbooks for Financial Education
Aiming to widely disseminate the joint research project's results in easy–to–understand forms, we have created textbooks and video materials that are now in actual use in various locations.
- Textbook: "Working with Money" (August 2006)
This is a compilation of explanations of the mechanisms of money, the roles of banks, and basic economic systems.
- Glossary: "Money and Our Lives" (March 2007)
A glossary developed for use as a supplement to "Working with Money," it offers explanations of economic terms together with illustrations.
- Textbook: "Life and Money" (November 2008)
This is a textbook for special support schools that is designed to support the autonomous efforts of children with special needs to independently participate in society.
Development of Practical Financial Education Textbook and DVD
Concluding that the further diffusion of financial education would require practical teaching tools, the joint research project, used the results of classroom teaching research and other information to develop a financial education textbook and accompanying DVD, which were officially completed in July 2011.
Purposefully omitting any reference to school type and grade level, the textbook includes material for five subjects – "Living Environment Studies," "Social Studies," "Home Economics," "Moral Education," and "the Period for Integrated Studies." This material is covered in 19 sets of teaching materials, each with four steps. The textbook is structured to allow teachers to choose the content they believe is best suited for their students. A class guide for teachers has also been prepared.
The accompanying DVD includes the textbook content and an audio function that allows it to be heard in a synthetic voice. It also has a teaching guide, recommendations for what to write on blackboards, a wealth of illustrations, and other reference materials.
In March 2012, the Financial Education Textbooks and DVD were named the winner of the National Institute on Consumer Education's eighth awards for "Excellent Material Awards concerning Consumer Education*."
- *This award was created with the intent to contribute to the enhanced development of consumer education in schools through use of materials incorporating the latest information from businesses and industry organizations, etc., in the development of guidance materials for schools or education research by teachers, etc.
- Distribution the textbooks (with DVDs) at no charge

Produced Video Materials for Financial Education
Mizuho has developed video educational tools on banks' functions. These tools explain deposits, loans, remittances and currency exchange, as well as the social role of banks. The video educational tools are used when students are accepted to experience working at bank branches.
